'... you managed to make it all so much more interesting. The Sunken Lane where the Lancashire Fusiliers suffered so many casualties; the place poet Siegfried Sassoon won his Military Cross and where John McCrea wrote 'In Flanders Field' plus so many more interesting and moving stories'

Major, British Army Officer |
'Thanks so very much for the excellent tour we had of the battlefields. Both Janet and myself were greatly moved by the experience and we will be forever grateful for your services and the manner in which you presented the tour. To actually get to the spot where my Grandfather died and find where he is buried, and try to imagine just what he and his comrades went through is, to say the least, beyond words; other than to say, I only wish my Mother and Grandmother could have visited the area, alas that will never be'
Keith & Janet Ryder, New Zealand |
'My battlefield tour was a moving experience. I had done a little bit of reading before the tour and on returning home, I have found my notes and looked over them again. It was all there. Beaumont Hamel, Hawthorne Ridge, The Sunken Lane, The Accrington Pals, the list goes on and on. The difference is I can now visualise all these places and have a much better understanding of what those brave young men had to go through. But lying in the same trench that the Accrington Pals did on 1st July 1916, and looking up the field to where the enemy was in wait, was a moment that I shall never forget'
Mike Greer, Cheshire, England |
'May I thank you for the most fascinating battlefield tour that I could have ever imagined; the time and effort that you put in to finding out where Susan’s Grandfather had served was without doubt astounding and most gratefully received'
David Sherlock, Manchester, England |
'A quick note of thanks for a fantastic weekend ... you have an excellent blend of visualisation, stories and analysis that keeps everyone engaged, it was a well balance battlefield tour and the administration was faultless; again thank you'
Gary Bateman, Scotland |
'Siegfried Sassoon asked in 1918, ‘Have you forgotten yet?’ as he wrote about World War One, but now that we are nearly a century on from this war, it is absolutely vital that these men and their stories are kept alive. Matt does just this, by taking you through an edifying, educational and emotional experience that will change and broaden your perspective completely – no matter your age, gender or family history'
