The motivation and drive for doing a battlefield tour can be varied and for many reasons; to visit the campaigns and battles of past family members, to pay respect to the deeds of past generations of soldiers and to look where your own regiment, or brigade, took part in key actions are some.  But, recently I had a most enjoyable battlefield tour to Normandy with Joe O'Carroll and his wife Colleen from South Africa, they simply wanted to understand what happened there and to help understand the soldiers whom fought there.

I recently had the great privilege of witnessing the presentation of a Dickin Medal, the animals Victoria Cross, to Treo, for saving many lives in Afghanistan with the British Army.

In Search of a Grandfather
We recently had two great days on a battlefield tours with Mr Bill Wicks from New Zealand; he wanted to visit the Somme and find his Grandfather's name on the New Zealand Memorial; and if possible, to find the location he went missing in the latter days on the Somme campaign.

The Menin Gate
Since the 1920s at exactly 2000 hours, or 8:00 pm, every night the sound of the bugle can be heard in the Belgium town of Ypres, as the local fireman play The Last Post under The Menin Gate as a salute to the many soldiers who fell during the Great War of 1914 – 1918.
